Raw Banana Nut Bread with sour cherries inside !!!

I just love the weekends. They usually don’t mean chill & relax, there is simply no time for that… ever…. On weekends I like to experiment and invent new recipes. Especially now that it is getting colder and all windows are closed, the good smell from the kitchen fills up the house. This is something the children will for sure remember :).

Here some facts – almond milk vs. cow’s milk (full of hormones don’t forget!)

Almond milk is the much healthier choice. Almond milk contains a wide variety of the vitamins and minerals, high levels of antioxidants, helps to prevent many types of cancer and slows the signs of aging. Cow’s milk contains a lot more calories and fat than almond milk. Cow’s milk also contains saturated fat and cholesterol; almond milk is free of both saturated fat and cholesterol.

This bread turned out to be delicious, spongy, soft, smells and tastes simply delicious. My own recipe. I added the sour cherries I just got a big supply and it gives it an interesting twist in flavor. The spread is a raw pumpkin spread that got left over from my raw pumpkin pie. Last week I did a raw quinces and nuts jam. Delicious and so healthy.

Raw food – essential tools

Yes, I am still on raw food and…¬† I LOVE IT¬† !!!!¬† No, I don’t miss cooked food, I don’t miss being tired and moody all the time, like I was before. I don’t miss being bloated like a balloon and for sure I don’t miss meat. Don’t get me wrong, I love meat, I still do. I just do not like how it feels and sits weeks in my stomach after I eat it, so I choose very consciously to stay away from meat, dairy and other cooked foods. I have such a variety of delicious truly nutritious foods as much as I want daily, so that I never have time to even miss the old unhealthy cooked food. For all those who keep asking me “ohhhh and what about proteins”, WHAT ABOUT PROTEINS !!! Most people don’t even know what proteins are, yet they rave about proteins they think are missing in raw food. Give me a break. I have plenty of proteins in my daily diet. Nobody needs meat for proteins really. Read a bit before talking. Sorry, I just get so annoyed getting these wide-eyed looks when people hear I am on raw food. The next thing I hear is, I couldn’t be on raw food I need hot meals….. I have hot meals, dahhhhh, just not cooked. I have soups, I have quiche, I even have pizza, 40 degrees is a hot meal or do you need it any hotter?

Being on a raw food diet is my choice, it’s not an easy thing, I will not lie about it, it takes a great deal of coordination, learning, reading, preparing, shopping. I did many courses, spent a LOT of money on workshops, books, bought several kitchen machines. Yes, you really have to invest! BUT !!! It is the best investment you will do in your life and worth every penny and every minute spent learning how to do it right! They key is the balance. You need to make sure you are getting all the nutrition you need daily. You can’t just eat raw and think that is it. Not so easy. I have read, studied and tried it out on myself now for almost a year, I have never felt and looked better, as simple as that! It is not about weight loss anymore at all (though I am very happy about this side-effect).
For me, it is a pleasure being on raw food. It feels natural, it is healthy, I feel great, how can it be wrong? I always have loved cooking and preparing delicious food for my family, I still do, only now, much healthier, knowing I am giving a wonderful base of nutrition to them. My baby is not¬†entirely¬†on raw food, but I am giving her only healthy food. NO SUGARS – no bought food, no treats (they are the worst). I prepare everything myself, chocolate, cookies, cakes and ice creams, all home made where I know what is in there. Example for my babies breakfast is mango, avocado, buckwheat sprouted cereal, coconut butter, raw banana bread. Now when I say raw, it does not mean its is a raw bread, as dough …. raw means that is has not been heated over 40 degrees, but I do dehydrate it in my dehydrator, so it’s basically just like a backed banana bread, only with all the vitamins and enzymes and its so healthy that it is a pleasure watching her eat it. She also loves sprouts and chia, goji beers, all the superfoods as Maca, Lucuma, she gets it all. I can see the difference how often other children are sick in her kindergarten compared to her. This is all thanks to the healthy food I give her.

This is my raw lasagne. Da-li-shioooos!!! This is what I learned in my last course from one of the world’s best raw food Chefs James Russell from London. Now I am about to finish my raw chocolate course with the great Amy Levin, the best raw chocolatier in the world. Imagine, doing my own raw delicious chocolate in my own kitchen, being able to eat chocolate without a guilt trip.

Here are the essentials if you want to go raw and enjoy it:

Vitamix_Green-Smoothie# 1 Vitamix – Blender.
This is the number one tool in my kitchen. I am in love with my Vitamix, couldn’t live without it anymore. Seriously! I use it daily and even several times a day. Cost around 600 Euro and is so worth every penny. I know it sounds like a lot of money, but don’t think you are smarter than everyone else and get a cheaper one, in the end you will buy a Vitamix anyway. So if you really want to make it right and make it a pleasure, get the Vitamix, don’t bullshit around. There are other brands like Blendtec and others, but all over the world, all the expert raw- foodiest and famous Chefs have the Vitamix. This speaks for itself. I have seen the Blendtec in action and I cant tell the Vitamix is better. I can only recommend this powerful bulldozer, it will change your life!

What I do in my Vitamix: green smoothies  ice cream, chocolate, nut butters, spreads, soups, flours, lots of baby food.

# 2 Juicers

This is my titanic, the “green star elite”. Titanic because it is huge and heavy, so better find a good place for it in the kitchen. You will not want to go for a walk with it. Price is about 600 Euro, best on the market for green juices and wheat grass. greenstarelite I buy organic greens they are expensive, so I do want to get the maximum juice. The pulp is so dry and I make veggie burgers from it. Cleaning it is a bit of a pain but not more than 5 minutes and i think it is a worthwhile investment for your health. It has special magnets in the stainless steel juicers that makes the juice fresh and no loss of vitamins even if stored up to 24 hours in the fridge. Which is great as I can do my juice in the evenings for the next day, as I don’t have time in the mornings to deal with that.


This one below is my favorite juicer, I use now daily, clap your hands for my brand new little friend ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬† “OMEGA VRT 402 HD” the Omega is tiny, does not take much space, is great, clean in 2 minutes, a dream. Price 450 Euro.

omegaThis is a slow vertical juicer, means you need to cut your fruits and veggies real tiny because it has a small feeder on top. Don’t let this discourage you, it is one minute extra work for a fantastic juice. You need to know how to deal with this little fellow. The first day I did it all wrong, but so wrong, that I thought of returning the juicer. I than watched a video on youtube “omega VRT best practice” and from that day I am having a blast with this one! It makes almond milk in a minute, fantastic. I actually bought it for the almond milk, but I use it for all my juices now. I can really recommend this one. Before I used my Vitamix for the almond milk, but than you have to strain it through a nut milk bag, which is a bit of a pain and time consuming. Here you make your almond milk without getting your hands dirty basically.

To compare the two juicers: the green star elite, is of course superior to this one, the quality of juice is by far better as there is no pulp in the juice at all and no need to use a strainer. Of course the green star is also 200 euro more expensive and you always get what you pay for. However, I still would prefer now having both of them, the omega because it’s faster, smaller and so easy to clean. Downside I have to use a strainer before putting the juice into my containers after juicing, one extra step, but not a big deal in my opinion.

# 3 Food processor

This is a professional food processor. I consider myself a Chef in my own kitchen, so why not having all the right toys?!! I use the food processor a lot. I use it for chopping veggies for salad, dough, cake bases, nut flour, pesto, ice creams, creams and spreads. Cost 400 Euro, also worth every penny. Very powerful and quiet (compared to the Vitamix) it has a great advantage that it has 3 nested containers, that means you don’t need to wash them as you go if you need several rounds. Very easy to clean, I can highly recommend it. I couldn’t do may of my foods without it. I know people get confused, and ask me, well can’t you make those things in the Vitamix? Nope ! Vitamix is a blender and this is a food processor with an S Blade, like a left and a right shoe, similar but yet very different my friends.

# 4 Dehydrator

dehydr This is my Sedona dehydrator. The number one is the excalibur dehydrator in the US, the sedona is a german made and I choose it because it has a glas front and a¬† digital timer you can program. This appealed to me, so I¬†¬† can leave it on over night without a worry. I used it a lot in the beginning, now a bit less, but still I use it for dehydrating my grains and sprouts. I bake my crusts and breads, cookies, crackers and everything. I use it also to heat up food because I do not use the microwave anymore, I don’t want any radiation in my food. cost around 300 euro. It is really great for snacks, you can dehydrate fruits and veggies and have always available healthy snacks on the go for you.

I you are on a tight budget and only can afford one thing, I would get the Vitamix to start with. By the way, all these kitchen machines you can get in monthly installments, no need to rob a bank for it.

my raw food journey

For those who know me, it’s no secret that I love to eat, I love, no I adore actually, good food, beautifully presented, very important!

I had to find a way for me in life to eat well, no deprive myself of ANYTHING, be healthy, slim and feel good!
I have achieved almost all of the above now, slim… I am still working on it, but already lost 8 kilo since March 2013.

How I did it …
I heard from a friend about the alkaline diet by Kimberly Snyder¬†¬†and started to read further and further and started to find myself drawn to raw food lifestyle. It is not a diet it is something for life !!! I did it all by the book. I started with a 10 days juice fast. I would never have believed in a million years, that me – moi – would be able not to chew on anything for 10 whole long days. It was a test for me, to see if I can do this, I can do anything. I really found pleasure in the juice fast, so much that I am about to repeat it with a friend very soon. I felt GREAT. I was not hungry at all, I was full of energy and good mood, I was walking on clouds. Maybe I got high on celery, who knows, but fact is, it did wonders for my body. I lost 3 kilo very easy, my skin, my hair everything improved dramatically. I would not have believed it if I wouldn’t see it with my own eyes. I am a very skeptical person…
Don’t misunderstand me, when I say it was easy, piece of cake. Not entirely, it is not only a body cleanse, it is also a mental cleanse. Things come up, issues, emotions, but not in a negative sense. I felt calm and relaxed, I saw things with different eyes, I can honestly say. Many times in those 10 days I wanted to be alone, which is very usual for me. With my busy lifestyle, the only time I am alone, is in the toilette. In those 10 days it felt that my body and mind wanted all my attention and therefore I needed to be alone and just with myself, a new and very pleasant experience. I actually liked my company very much, and I will do it more often. I felt in peace and centered.

As the 10 days fast approached its end I started google for good raw food recipes. There is plenty on the net. I bought tons of ebooks and read them. I have learned such amazing amazing things that we owe to ourselves and our children to stop feeding them this SHIT !!!! Processed food, chemicals, sugar ! NO NO NO ! Not in our house anymore. With the support of my husband we decided to change our habits and jump right into raw food in the house.
For those of you, who think we are eating salads and cucumbers all day, you are so wrong !!!! In fact we have never eaten better than now. I am fully raw, my family is half raw. Meaning outside I can’t watch over them all the time, but boy do I watch them at home, like a hawk ! My eyes are all over them. I threw out all the junk food, there simply is none any more ! Ketchup, chips, dairy, sweets all out !!! Chips I am making kale and veggie chips, even my baby adores them and she gets all the vitamins while eating something crunchy that she thinks is chips. My baby does not get dairy products anymore at all. She gets almond milk, and chia pudding with goji beers, or an avocado, or mango for breakfast. She is healthy and vibrant, it is amazing. My teenage daughter, who has skin problems like all teenagers started to see the difference in her skin, now she joins me almost every day for dinner with raw food. Still she eats “her unhealthy” stuff when she is with friends, but I am sure, she is a smart girl, she will soon understand and will be able to say not to bad food, because she can see what it does to her, not to speak that she started to take borrow my clothes which is not a good sign and she know it too.

I am making the most delicious desserts and ice cream, shakes, just delicious, I can literally indulge in eating as much as I want, fantastic gourmet food without gaining one gram, and even loosing and shrinking in sizes. Isn’t that a dream come true. The weight loss was my primary goal, I will not lie about it, but now that I see how this makes me feel, I can see that it is much more important than what we think. You are what you eat! I have never seen a fat person who is fat from fruits and vegetables!

In the meanwhile I have finished a raw food gourmet cooking class with James Russel, did a dessert workshop here in Vienna, am about to do one in London next month, tomorrow I have a workshop on natural cosmetics! Very exciting stuff. I have started a course now to become a raw food educator. So check back with me in 16 weeks, I will know much more than I know today.

My day starts with green smoothies, amazing energizing delicious vitamins power cocktail that I take with me to work, I am full and satisfied and avoid the cafeteria unless it is for something healthy. I don’t miss meat and for sure not dairy. I buy everything sugar free ! Sugar is our enemy #1, it is feeding cancer cells, so you really don’t want it in our body. There are better ways like fruits, bananas, mangos, etc etc.

We eat with our eyes

All this first impression…, and looks count bla bla bla, really works for me. Some may say it’s superficial and shallow, but I insist, I am eating with my eyes. It’s all about presentation!
I have noticed it many times. If the food is presented beautifully, to me it already tastes good even before I start eating; this of course works vise-versa. Even if the most delicious food is just dumped on an ugly plate, I already don’t like it. I wish I could say I even loose my appetite, but unfortunately that doesn’t happen.

Why am I telling you all this? Today me and my 3 dear friends (all big time food lovers, especially one, and I will not say which one) decided to treat ourselves at work, least once a month, we go to the restaurant for lunch. It is a real fancy restaurant for the diplomats. Not that we want to mingle with diplomats, no, but at least they know where the good food is, especially since they are not paying for it :).
So the four of us sitting in this fancy restaurant, chatting and giggling happily. I am telling my friends how I love it when food is presented beautifully, and that there are special “food designers” where their only job is to decorate food and style up a dish… speaking of it, I said: mmm, how I love the desserts in this place, they are all so beautiful. I couldn’t wait to get my plate of dessert.
I have ordered “trio of chocolate mousse canche”, and mmm, already the sound of it is mouth watering, right? All excited, I see the waiter from a distance approaching our table with my plate; I take my little fork ready to stab in …. and then I get this … :


… now you tell me… what the f*** was the Chef la cuisine thinking when he arranged a plate of delicious 3 types of chocolate mousse like that ???? We all burst out in laughter!!!
Couldn’t he (must have been a HE… I doubt a woman would dump something on a plate like that!!).
At least arrange it differently… in circles or god knows how… but not like that!

Anyway, the other lesson I have learned today was, that not everything that looks like sh** – tastes like it. It can still be a wonderful delight, as this dessert was meant to be, and it was delicious, honestly, I had to stop myself from licking the plate. I will for sure order it again but beg the waiter to ask to arrange it not so art-deco this time please.

This was my treat for the day, I will not have dinner for the rest of my life (just kidding) and I will work out tonight I promise ūüôā …

Russian Invasion to Helsinki

This year started smoothly, accompanied by a wonderful lingering feeling of positive CHANGE for 2013. I can’t help but feel it in my gut, that this year will be a fantastic one!!! This year my baby became a toddler and can stay with Daddy a couple of days. I feel relieved, as a consequence my wanderlust kicked in as expected when my baby turned 1 years old. The same happened with my 2 other children. I cannot separate from my babies even for one day while they are younger than one year, but after that, I allow myself to withdraw and take a bit of time for myself. Not one second goes by without missing them to bits – but still I need a few days for myself – and I don’t feel guilty about it and enjoy every moment when I am away. I am lucky to have a supportive husband as well.

Russian Invasion to Helsinki

My first trip in 2013 was to Helsinki, Finland to visit my dear friend K. We worked together for 7 years. I was terribly sad when she left and went back to her hometown in Finland.¬† Sometimes leaving is the only solution, often there is an “end of the road”. Her work here slowly but steadily sucked out all the life and creativity from within her. She¬† used to be such a happy gal with a loud laugh that could fill up a room, with shiny beautiful enormous blue eyes. A shitty boss can seriously turn your world upside down. I am so proud of her for having¬† the courage to leave this very well paid job of ours (though ungrateful and demanding to a point it leaves some people here burned out and empty). A good salary is not everything, and not for everybody to take crap from others.
My friend was smart enough to understand that if  she stayed, she will only become more and more miserable with nothing to anticipate.
I was so happy to find in Helsinki my old friend full of life and laughter, her eyes filled with hope for a good future. Yes, it takes courage, but the reward is worth the risk. I arrived in Helsinki around 4 in the afternoon and it was already dark. We took the bus to the city center where our Hotel was only a short walk in the brisk cold wind. The hotel is right by the sea which was entirely frozen. I was so amazed and excited to see a man sitting on the ice and fishing for hours in the cold. I wish I had a bigger lens to capture more of their faces and expressions, but a 70-200 is just not enough on a full frame. This trip was to relax and have a good weekend in good company. I was not aiming to see all museums and tourist attractions, this I will leave for the summer.
For sure I will return soon.For this weekend we, the two luxus-bitches as we are, booked ourselves in the Hilton, 2 nights 5 stars all the way … or so we¬† thought….what we didn’t know was that half a million Russians had invaded Helsinki, it was the Russian Christmas, so remember that – and make sure – not to visit any capital city at that time! Breakfast in the hotel was as if it was a matter of life and death. Russians – everywhere – they were filling up their plates with towers of toasted bread, no joke, like 14 pieces of bread carried to the table, as if there is no tomorrow. Breakfast plates at the buffet were empty, the staff were running back and forth attempting to replace the empty with full plates even though it lasted only a few minutes. They were pushing from all the sides at the buffet, we were totally baffled. We were shocked! The ordeal continued and was even worse in the sauna. What is better than to relax in a real Finnish sauna. We arrived to the 8th floor of the hotel with high expectations for relaxation, but no such luck. The sauna was tiny and also full of Russian ladies, we barley found a space to sit.
¬†Like every first night in a new place is a sleepless one. We could have talked all night, like school girls tired from the long day and excitement, we kept saying “good night” and after 2 minutes of silence we started talking again ;).We were lucky, as this week was a exceptional Light show all over the city. One good example is the white church were this light spectacle took place.

The weather was also not too bad, luckily I was all geared up, I bought especially for this trip a down jacket from “”, and Jack Wolfskin special snow tracking boots, a dream! I would not have survived without this cold weather without them. We walked a lot (for me it was a lot…). Helsinki has excellent coffee. My friend said that Finland is the number one coffee drinking nation and Ice cream consumer … who would have thought. I found the prices compared to Vienna extremely expensive even more than UK or Switzerland.We visited cozy Cafe’s and good restaurants, even had dinner in one of the 50 best restaurants in Finland, but remember – below 50 euro for one person the music even doesn’t start playing.

Flirting with food

Heya friends !!!

Funny to be so passionate about food – whilst being on a diet the last 15 years, right …?!

Since we have only one life to live, and “a good half”¬† of it I already lived. I decided to enjoy what is left of the other half. Enjoying life to the fullest extent, cannot be without splendid mouthwatering food.

I love to share, and therefore, I would like to share with you some culinary discoveries I have recently made.

Me and my friend Rosi had a sushi express course. Not only was it delicious, we also learned how to make sushi from scratch; starting by the special way the rice is washed and on to the cooking and its marinades. We spend very entertaining 3 hours there, we have prepared with our own two hands delicious sushi. The workshop was held at the Moebeldepot in the 23rd district. It is a very beautiful Furniture store with imported furniture from India, Indonesia and all the exotic far far away places, I am dying to go one day.






Highly recommended to give such a voucher as a Christmas gift for your friends. The good part is that
they will feel obliged to invite you for sushi after the course …. LOL :). It was great fun to do this course and
we have learned something new. Now all we need is fresh fish and roll up our sleeves and get started.

On the last sunny weekend after walking the streets of Baden, we visited the beautiful park next to the Casino Baden. We walked all the way up to the hill and enjoyed the marvelous view. They were just building the little boots for the Xmas market. So we will have to go soon again, because only visiting the Rathaus market becomes boring after years. I hear that the one in Spittelberg is even nicer and also at the Karlsplatz.

For me,¬† there is no walking without have a coffee (preferably with good dessert) somewhere along the way. We have stopped at the Konditorei Josefsplatz, they have an remarkable selection of Austrian desserts. We had a “cardinal schnitte”, a chestnut cream cake and 2 cappuccino. It was truly delicious. We could not eat too much, because we had reservations for “Martinigansl”. In Austria in November it is “goose” time. They are celebrating some Austrian Saint named Martin and the meal is called after him (has nothing to do with Martini) something along these lines….

Food as a passionI have been calling well over 20 restaurants, all of which were fully booked for Sunday. I managed to convince one of the restaurants outside of Vienna to give us a table, telling them we have visitors from Israel and I want to impress them with the good Austrian food. It worked!  We got a table for 2:30.

We hit the road¬† to Gumpoldskirchen, a short drive from Baden, about 9 km towards Vienna. The restaurant is adjacent to a convent; therefore the Name “Klostergasthaus Thallern“. The Restaurant was beautiful, spacious and classic Austrian. The waiters wore Austrian traditional clothes which added to the ambiance and impressed our tourists. There was plenty of parking and a securely fenced playground for the children. There would have been no chance to get a table without reservation, the restaurant was packed.
We took the 4 course menu for 35 euro, not cheap, but worth every cent!!! For starters we had a goose-liver patte with caramelized apples, than the most delicious goose-vegetables soup I ever had with dumplings. Main course was a huge portion of 1/4 of Martini-goose. It was a feast not only for the eyes; the duck was crispy, smelled wonderful, the meat was soft as butter, literally melting on your tongue. It was served with red cabbage with saute apples and potato dumplings. Heavenly !!!! The dessert was to die for, chestnut cream with chocolate mouse OMG mmmmmmm. The Martini-duck season ends this week, Nov. 25. I think we will go there again.

Bakery – new restaurant at the DANIEL HOTEL in Vienna

My friend Ulli, we go a long way back …
– rewind –
when we were 14, all we wanted is to be 16 meet in a nice cafe in town and drink coke with lemon!!!
– fast forward –
we are 41 now, meeting up for fancy dinners as often as we can – but not often enough.
Yesterday we had a go at the¬†Bakery – Hotel Daniel¬†in the Landstrasserg√ľrtel 5, 1030 Vienna.

At first glance, it is a hotel! Nice and modern, at the G√ľrtel, a very crowded and busy street; no matter at what time you pass by. There is no parking on the G√ľrtel, we decided to park in the Hotel parking …

As soon as we drove into the hotel parking – there was this sign,

I already knew I will love this place. I love “silly signs”. If not for that sign, I would just leave my car right there! Unfortunately the parking is only for guests of the hotel and not the restaurant. We drove out and found a parking about 100 meters away.

In the front yard of the hotel stands an old silver trailer, apparently you can book for the night, it has it’s own little yard with two chairs and a table, really cool idea!!! They some herbs growing there, really neat, those guys got good taste.

The restaurant itself was a delight for my eyes. I love places like this. It was so NOT VIENNA traditional style – but my style. The chairs are all different and yet everything is in harmony.


Ulli reserved a table for 8 in the evening, we¬†preferred¬†to sit inside with the¬†air condition, it must have been still ¬†over 30 degrees outside. We couldn’t even show off driving the Cabriolet.


We ordered for a starter a marinated fennel salad with olive oil and apples. mmmmmmm delicious !!!
I am still on the dukan diet, so I could only have a steak, which was amazing, literally melted in my mouth. It came with two special dressings they make themselves, one was red currant with horseradish, and the other one was paprika and tomatoes, absolutely delicious! A feast for the taste and eyes !!!


Ulli had also a steak, but mine was better! Which is fair, because I was the guest after all. To drink Ulli had wine and natural apple juice. I ordered just tap water, and did not get any strange looks from the waiter (this often happens in Vienna, and now some even charge 50 cent for tap water). I even got a nice chilled glas bottle with 1 liter of tap water, for free, waow, impressive.

Knowing myself, there is no way I will leave without desert! Diet or no diet¬† … yes desserts are definitely¬† my weak spot. We had a excellent cup of cappuccino accompanied by Pavlova cake. The cake was ok, not to die for, could have saved myself the calories on that one and the disappointment on the scale the next morning … I never learn when it comes to desserts.
